Today, we’re bringing a taste of Lahore to your kitchen with a wonderful Lahori Naan Katai recipe. These delicate cookies are a popular treat in Pakistan and are perfect for enjoying with a cup of chai or as a sweet snack any time of the day. Let’s dive into the world of baking and create these delightful melt-in-your-mouth treats together.

Ingredients for Making Lahori Naan Katai Recipe:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 10-12 almonds or pistachios, chopped for garnish

Steps for Making Lahori Naan Katai Recipe:

Step 1:

Begin by combining the all-purpose flour, semolina, powdered sugar, and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. Use a whisk or a spoon to mix the dry ingredients thoroughly until well combined.

Step 2:

Next, gradually add the ghee to the dry mixture. Use your hands to gently mix and knead the dough until it comes together and forms a smooth, pliable consistency. Be gentle while kneading the dough to avoid overworking it.

Step 3:

Now, sprinkle in the cardamom powder and continue kneading the dough to incorporate the fragrant spice. This will infuse the dough with a delightful aroma and add a hint of exotic flavour to the cookies.

Step 4:

Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper. Take small portions of the dough and roll them into smooth balls. Then, gently flatten each ball to form round cookie shapes. Place them on the lined baking tray, leaving some space between each cookie.

Step 5:

Press a few chopped almonds or pistachios onto the top of each cookie to decorate them. Once the cookies are ready for baking, place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the edges of the cookies turn a light golden brown colour.

Step 6:

Once the cookies are baked to perfection, remove the tray from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the tray for a few minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely and firm up before serving.

Some Handful Tips:

For an extra special touch, you can also add a pinch of saffron strands to the dough for a beautiful golden colour and a subtle floral flavour.

Ensure that the ghee is at room temperature when incorporating it into the dough to achieve the right texture.

If you prefer a softer texture, you can reduce the baking time slightly, but keep an eye on the cookies to prevent over-browning.
